The Seagrass Ocean Rescue Solent project is undertaking a series of scientific field trials of seagrass planting using five different methods. These scientific trials are taking place in three locations in the Solent namely, Thorness, Priory Bay and Beaulieu. In 2023 all five different methods have been planted and the project is the monitoring phases which it undertakes every 3 months at each of the locations.
This project will allow future seagrass restoration projects to make informed, scientifically trialled, and evidence-based decisions as to the most successful restoration technique to greatly improve the chances of seagrass meadow establishment in restoration projects
The Isle of Wight is a UNESCO biosphere giving us a unique opportunity to tap into a global network, allowing us to further share our work to inspire and advise other global seagrass projects.

Local volunteers are helping to pick and plant the seagrass seeds as part of these scientific trials. The local community are emphasising how the public can support healthy seagrass meadows and take ownership and guardianship of this marine habitat and resource.
If you are local to the Solent and Isle of Wight area and would like to volunteer, drop us a email at volunteers@projectseagrass.org to sign up to our volunteer database. Make sure to upload any sightings of seagrass to SeagrassSpotter to help contribute to seagrass conservation.
