Emma Butterworth

Solent Fieldwork Officer

Emma first joined Project Seagrass in 2020 as an Intern, where she took part in the WWF led restoration project in Dale. During this internship, Emma developed a keen interest in exploring the connections between seagrass ecosystems and bird populations, a passion that has shaped their academic journey. This led to an undergraduate dissertation and an MRes thesis focused on the support that seagrass provides to avian species, with particular emphasis on migratory birds. They hold a BSc in Marine Biology and (will hold) an MRes in Biosciences, both from Swansea University. Having worked alongside Project Seagrass throughout their academic endeavours, Emma officially joined the team in December 2024 as Solent Fieldwork Officer, assisting with the scientific seagrass restoration trials taking place on the Isle of Wight and around the Solent.
